Costa Rica COVID Situation

Coronaviruses (CoV) are an expansive family of infections that cause ailments extending from the common cold to more serious maladies. On 7 January 2020 health authorities detected a novel coronavirus (nCoV) strain, incidentally named “2019-nCoV”, later “COVID-19 virus”. With the advance of COVID-19 cases that rise by the day, the situation this dreadful virus has caused around the world is extremely appalling. The World Health Organization (WHO), which has officially declared the outbreak as a pandemic, has called on “all countries to continue efforts that have been effective in limiting the number of cases and slowing the spread of the virus.” Nations worldwide are actualizing measures to moderate the spread of the coronavirus, from national quarantines to school closures.

More than a third of the planet’s populace is beneath a frame of restrictions. Statistical analysis reports of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) report new cases from Asia (961 320), America (949 611), Europe (540 404), Africa (253 243), and Oceania (3 660). The five countries reporting the newest cases are Brazil (349 210), India (305 898), United Kingdom (198 099), Colombia (188 667), and Indonesia (168 780). America, Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe have reported deaths. The five significant countries reporting the newest deaths are Brazil (10 943), India (5 998), Colombia (4 140), Russia (4 032), and Indonesia (3 444). The poverty-stricken regions of Africa, mainly Nigeria, and the impoverished Countries like India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh may experience the third wave as they lag behind in taking the necessary measures against COVID-19.

 An intensive fight

Vaccines have been developed and they have been spread worldwide in order to slow down the pandemic; however, backward countries would not have this privilege making their situation worse and eventually bringing about a horrendous third wave if the virus mutates. They are still testing the effectiveness, and they advise people to stay at home. They may go outdoors following the safety procedures. According to WHO, the United States is the most affected by Corona Virus (34,643,902 cases according to WHO), and the older people, those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer, are more likely to develop serious illness

Costa Rica COVID Situation.

Costa Rica is a country situated in Central America. Shares a border with Nicaragua to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the northeast, Panama to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, and Ecuador to the south of Cocos Island. It has a population of around 5 million. According to Worldometer, the current statistics show that the coronavirus Cases in totality have been 377,091 while 4753 deaths have taken place and 301,726 have recovered.

Currently (as of July 7), there were 377,091 positive cases, 301,726 recoveries, and 4,753 deaths. The first fatality was on March 18, 2020. Geographically, cases are in every Costa Rican province. Active cases are throughout all of the country’s 82 cantons. The cantons of Alajuela, San Jose, and Heredia have the most active cases. All confirmed individuals stay isolated their homes, hotels, specialized housing, or hospitals and are under medical supervision.

Costa Rica COVID situation

The government uses contact tracing whenever possible for infected individuals and requires a 14-day quarantine for those with potential exposure. Costa Rica saw its highest daily increase of new COVID-19 cases on May, 2021. There were 3,173 new cases over 24 hours.

Currently, most businesses can operate, with some exceptions. On May 10, Costa Rica announced it would take new measures for the rest of May. Businesses can operate, and you can drive only between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (previously 11:00 p.m.) National Parks are only up to 50% capacity, bars 25% capacity and social events can only have up to 30 people. As of June 4, driving restrictions have also been extended. You can only drive on selected days based on their license plate number.

Residents from all countries and all U.S. states can now enter Costa Rica by land, air. There is no travel ban since November, 2020.

To enter, visitors must buy special travel insurance and fill out an online health form. A COVID test is not required anymore to enter Costa Rica. Some countries like the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, etc., require a negative Covid Test before tourists fly back home.

Are Costa Rica Borders Open?

Yes! Costa Rica’s land borders reopened to visitors as of Monday, April 5. Tourists who did not require an entry visa were able to enter the country via land border posts. This includes citizens of the United States, Canada, and others of the 1 and 2 groups of the general guidelines for entry for non-residents. As part of this gradual opening of land borders, the sanitary order to comply with a quarantine is eliminated.

This first phase of land border reopening did not authorize the passage of migrants who seek to cross the region in order to reach the United States. This so-called “controlled mixed migratory flow” entered from Panama and continued into Nicaragua and beyond. For the time being, these people remained in shelters enabled in Panama.

Nicaraguans with jobs in Panama are able to pass through Costa Rica. This is possible through the “Sanitary Bubbles” operations of the migration authorities.

The Costa Rica COVID situation made the country to close all its borders in March 2020 as a health measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The maritime and air borders opened in August 2020.

POC Camp

The POC camp is an extension of the POC lodge and while the POC Lodge is located with vast views of the Pacuare River Canyon the POC Camp is down on the river’s edge. While it might not have the view of the POC Lodge it sits on one of the calmest sections of the river making the POC Camp home to one of the river Pacuare’s best spots for taking a swim and relaxing on the river’s edge.

POCsito is a favorite among so many of our guests. It is a glamping experience with some of the important comforts of home.

POC Lodge

Started in 2011 is the POC lodge. If you haven’t figured it out by now POC lodge is our own lodge and what we like to call the “baby” of the P.O.C. Adventure Company. We wanted a lodge on our favorite part of Costa Rica which is the Pacuare River and with the help of locally harvested supplies and labor, the POC Lodge was born.

This is a 180-acre property that runs over 1 mile of the Pacuare River. Our goal has always been to offer as much comfort as possible without steering too far away from our roots of just roughing it on the river’s edge. Our lodge has hot water, a splash of luxury in the rooms, and 5-Star service and attention to our guests.

Our favorite part about the lodge is that we built a short hike up from the river’s edge. We know we have the best views of the Pacuare River canyon and unfortunately pictures don’t even do it justice.

Arenal Paraiso, Arenal

Have you ever wanted to stay the night at the base of an active volcano? Well here is your chance. The Arenal Paraiso is located at the base of the Arenal Volcano with breath-taking views of the perfectly cone-shaped volcano.

Here at Arenal Paraiso’s, you will enjoy the beautiful property which offers much more than just a view. The property has numerous bungalows that offer a splash of luxury while surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. After a day of adventure, you will love making your way back to relax or hang out in the pool at Arenal Paraiso.

Shawandha, Caribbean

Located at the edge of the white sandy beaches of Costa Rica sits the Shawandha lodge.  A perfect blend of eco-style luxury along with the sounds of the ocean and vibrant ambiance of the rainforest.

Shawandha lodge is set up with individual bungalows made out of local wood. You will be sure to wake up to the sound of the local residents such as the howler monkeys and green macaws. After your day of adventure, you will have a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful swimming pool at the Shawandha Lodge.

Hotel Villa Florencia, Turrialba

Located in the valley of Turrialba surrounded by sugar-cane plantations and views of the smoking Turrialba Volcano sits an old plantation home that has been renovated into a beautiful small hotel named Villa Florencia.

This is a great hotel with a beautiful pool and plenty of space to take long morning or afternoon hikes. The Villa Florencia hotel is a chance to enjoy luxury while feeling like you stook back in time. While you are in the valley don’t forget to look up as the Turrialba Volcano can often be seen doing small eruptions from across the valley.

Casa Turire, Turrialba

Casa Turire has been one of our favorites since we started. The grounds are some of the lushest you will find anywhere in Costa Rica. Casa Turire sits in the valley of Turrialba surrounded by mountains and the beautiful Turrialba Volcano. The most amazing part about Casa Turire other than its great restaurant and home-made sugar cane ice cream is that it sits on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Angostura offering great morning hikes, birding, or SUPing around the lake.
